Public Education

Throughout NKHR's 20-year history, the biggest challenge has been increasing interest in North Korean human rights among the general
public in South Korea. Many in South Korea tend to be indifferent toward the human rights situation in North Korea and hold negative
stereotypes about North Koreans resettling in South Korea. Often, ignorance is at the root of negative attitudes toward North Korea and North
Koreans. NKHR's Public Education programs—under the motto "Love to Learn, Learn to Love"—address this issue by promoting greater
awareness of the human rights situation in North Korea and of the resettlement process for North Koreans.

NKHR's Public Education programs include human rights education for South Korean youth, campus visits and discussions, media updates
and awareness-raising, and activities for South and North Koreans to build friendships and learn from one another. These small scale
activities are gradually changing South Korean culture and societal attitudes toward North Korea and North Korean resettlers in South Korea.
